I think I hit my first real "The choices you have made in the past, are greatly affecting things now." situation.
In short, a quest that I thought was for the most part, unrelated, turns out to be very much related to this quest.
If you're interested, click the spoiler, and it's a complete spoiler so make sure you really want to read it.
I'm not sure what the other option would have done, but it's WAY too late to back up and redo things. I wouldn't even know what save out of 200 saves ago that was anyway (and HOURS of real time).
Anyway, this is the first time that I've directly seen the choices I've made, impact things in the game in such a way. It's really cool and really annoying at the same time because I always want to do the right thing... hehe

So... earlier on in the game, I ran into a quest (not sure where I got it, from the Crones or someone else) that required me to rid the area of evil. You end up going to a really large tree in the forest and it starts talking, etc. During this quest, you have the choice of killing it, or releasing the spirit inhabiting it. I chose to release the spirit and let it save the orphans in the bog.
So, later on, you learn that "Gran" is actually the Baron's wife, under the spell/curse of the Crones. Because I chose to have that tree spirit save the children, the Crones get pissed off at Gran and curse her into a monster form. Gran/Anna/The Baron's wife, ends up dying. Because of this, the Baron hangs himself from a tree and there's no leader of that area.
I have no idea how this is going to play out now, but it looks like I made a bad decision by saving the children.
