Getting a Castle?

I was reading on the forums and I guess there are only going to be 12 total castles in the game. Not sure how this works, as in what is required to get this. but someone is already claiming they have one of the spots. Might want to look into this and see what's required and if it's a goal that we (whoever "we" is, hehe) want to shoot for.

As far as I can tell, the only way to get a castle is to pledge $2,000 or more. All of the pledges at that level or higher include a castle. I'm pretty sure this is the only chance to get one, but that's a bit steep for even me. =)

Yeah, I did just read that myself. I also read though that you can pool your pledges together or something during the KS. Still don't don't if we'd have enough interest, but... something to consider if we get more people interested.

I would definitely be for it. We have 20 days to find another $1,160 if my math is right.

One of the posters on the official forum is sporting the $3500 donation avatar. That would get him the castle on his private island.

Here is one of the new castle models, he said they are adding more designs than the original two. Anymore thoughts on pushing for $2,000 total and getting one?

I might be willing to increase my pledge if others are willing to do the same. I have no problem handing the reigns to Trek if that makes people more comfortable, as I know everyone doesn't know me that well and he is certainly someone that everyone trusts (that is if he wants it :)).

If you watched his interview, he mentions that there is a "reason" for the castles, which of course we won't know about until launch. You can see the interview here.

It is your game Deuce. I am fine with you leading. What total we at anyways? Has it gone up since the first few days?

I believe Trek wants to be in charge as badly as he wants clowns at his next birthday party.

For me, it wouldn't matter who was leading this idea. I don't have a lot of disposable cash right at the moment.

But, if needed, I could scrounge up a little more than my initial $50 pledge. I could probably go another $50, but that would be about the most I could do until after the holidays.

Here is where I see the numbers at right now, please let me know if I have your pledge wrong or missed it entirely:

Trek $100
Chris $25
Mori $100
Hyip $50
Ronus $100
Biotek $25
Lisha $25
Deuce $500

Total $925 pledged, so we need another $1,075 for a castle.

Outside of adding another 50 bucks or so, I couldn't do much more being this close to the holidays and various bills (3k to the dentist, etc). I think more than anything, we need to get more people on board (although increasing pledges is good too). But spreading the costs might prove easier.

If there was a guild being started, that might more easily attract people to the cause and get people involved and moving their parcels to your land mass. not to mention I'm sure there are people that have bought the game already, but haven't decided to join up with any one group yet.

Also, as for running it, as Morigen mentioned, no thanks. =) However, I do plan on being a part of things. I think new blood is what's needed and not my old crusty blood. ;) But I'm definitely here to help and be a part of the overall team. =)

It looks like instanced dungeons under castles will be the big draw of getting a castle:

It's been a part of our plans to implement dungeons found under the castles to help make the castles more of a sought after destination for adventurers, but due to the way Unity handles terrain, we won't be able to add non instanced underground dungeons because you can't have anything under the terrain. I didnt want to make it part of the Kickstarter campaign because I wasn't 100% sure how we were going to implement them yet and figured it would be left as a nice surprise later. Apparently, someone caught me slippin in an interview and I spoke about it (damnit!) so yeah, it's something we are working on. Now, some things we will be able to do without them being instanced. So don't worry, caves and such should be fine.

So while it would be nice, I'm not sure how big of a deal getting a castle will end up being. He has also made mention of castles playing a part in faction PvP (whenever it is implemented) so that would be another advantage. So again, while it would be nice, it's not game breaking.

Agreed. We might even be able to make something cooler ourselves depending on how we are allowed to design things anyway.
